ABJECT FEMALE 1

Debuted in December 2017 at Vila Maria Zélia - Headquarters of Grupo XIX - São Paulo-SP

Idealization and General Direction: Janaina Leite

Synopsis

In 2017, an intense research on the concept of abjection and its relationship with the representations of the feminine today, gave rise to the experiment Abjeto Feminine 1, performed only by women and two non-binary people. The work, supported by the Theater Promotion Act for the city of São Paulo in the form of a “research nucleus” within the XIX Theater Group, took as its main axis the figure of a “more archaic than real” mother, as a field of refusal but also identification in relation to a certain “transmission of femininity”.

The tension inside / outside, or rather, the frontier dimension present in the idea of abjection added to the misogynistic dialectic that inspired by the work of the Spanish artist Angélica Liddell were the main orientations for this research, generating an entirely authorial material shared by 13 performers on stage. The show opened in August of the same year and included some festivals such as FESTA in Santos, dedicated to debates about feminism in the arts and the Libertarian Mostra at Sesc Belenzinho.

“The desecration of the rigid rites of the performing arts seemed to me to be fully achieved by Janaina Leite and the group of performers of this visceral and libertarian creation. By shattering various stereotypes about the universe of women, the work puts the public at constant risk by displacing them from a comfortable presence in the face of the questions of FEMALE ABJETO. Without being configured as a manifesto, Feminine Abjeto is a very unique experience for establishing continuous crises with ingrained artistic codes and for providing clashes with the certainties of morality and the conservative social environments and traditional performing arts and anchored in the word. It even incorporates what is normally neglected in the theater, which results in other types of dialogues in which there is no distance between what is on the scene of those who are witnessing it, with the elimination of walls and olimpos. For that, the boldness of an actress, director and researcher is restless and attuned to what is most interesting in the current artistic creation in the city and the very iconoclastic and important presence of the artist-creators ”(Rodrigo Eloi, curator and programmer)
